TL;DR
  • Android Authority has unearthed new code strings in the Spotify app (version 9.1.34.12).
  • These indicate that Spotify Playlist folders will soon launch in the mobile app.
  • The feature will also support native folder renaming and deletion.

Our sister site, Android Authority, has unearthed new code strings in the Spotify app (version 9.1.34.12), indicating that the platform could soon launch Playlist folders in the mobile app. This feature has been available on desktops since 2010, but Android or iOS versions have never materialized. Now, 16 years later, listeners can expect to group playlists within a single folder on mobile.

Currently, listeners can create folders dedicated to concentration, workouts, or special occasions without dozens of playlists cluttering their library. However, you can’t create or manage playlist folders from Spotify’s mobile app. Instead, you must do so by signing in to Spotify’s desktop app or web player. Once created, you can access the folders across devices, but mobile users can’t manage them directly. It appears that Spotify is finally remedying this frustration.

New code strings indicate that Spotify is working on creating and managing playlist folders directly within its mobile app.

Android Authority recently discovered code strings that indicate that Spotify is developing Playlist folders directly within its mobile app. With it, listeners should be able to create a folder using the Create button or the ‘Your Library’ tab if the Create button is disabled.

Other strings show that you will be able to move playlists in and out of folders and quickly reorganize playlists without switching to the desktop app. Spotify will allow users to rename and delete folders from the mobile app, and deleting a folder may remove the playlists inside it. Users will receive a warning before doing this, displaying a confirmation message asking if they really want to delete the folder and all playlists inside it.

If this comes to fruition, creating and managing playlist folders should become much easier within the Android and iOS apps. This will be particularly useful for those who primarily use Spotify on their phones.
