Spotify announces translations, offline lyrics, and previews
February 5, 2026

- Spotify has announced three major upgrades to its Lyrics feature.
- These include translations, offline lyrics, and previews.
- Translations and previews are available to all, while offline lyrics are reserved for Premium subscribers.
Spotify launched its Lyrics feature across 26 countries in 2020 and expanded it globally a year later. Now, the company is rolling out three major upgrades, bringing translations, offline lyrics, and previews. The latter was introduced by Apple Music last year, so it’s right that Spotify is catching up. Afterall, Spotify is among the best music streaming services on the market.
Lyrics are one of Spotify’s most popular features, giving users a richer and more interactive listening experience. Translations launched in 2022 across 25 markets and is now available globally. This allows you to understand your favorite artists, no matter your language. So, if you speak English, you’ll be able to understand lyrics from artists like Julio Iglesias without a third-party translation app. Supporting songs will feature a translate icon on the lyrics card, and pressing it displays the translations underneath the original lyrics. These are based on your device’s language, and you can easily switch back to the original lyrics at any time. Spotify translations are available for Free and Premium subscribers.

Lyrics are also now available in Offline mode, automatically saving to your device once you download a song. This spells good news for commuters who often find themselves losing signal from being underground or in the air. However, unlike translations, Spotify’s new offline lyrics feature is only available for worldwide Premium users.
Spotify is finally making lyrics easier to find, playing them beneath album artwork and Canvas clips instead of in the tab beneath the playback bar. The lyrics will then scroll in time with the music, which is ideal for synchronization. Spotify claims that this new layout makes it easier to engage with lyrics and rediscover songs. As before, you can share your favorite lines directly to social media platforms from the Now Playing view. Lyric previews are rolling out globally to Free and Premium subscribers on mobile (iOS and Android) and tablet. You can disable lyric previews by tapping the three-dot menu and selecting “Lyrics Off.”
