The verdict

The Turtle Beach Recon 70 is a solidly executed, garden variety gaming headset. It handles the basics well and doesn't offer any frills for very little money. Bassheads won't be satisfied here because of the quiet sub-bass response. Still, this kind of sound shouldn't be much of a hindrance since explosions are typically mixed to be the loudest sound in a game anyway.
