End of an era: Google ends production of older Nest speakers to make room for new Home

- Google is halting production for the older Nest Mini and Nest Audio speakers.
- Google has officially confirmed the move, as it focuses on the new Home speaker.
- While the Nest Mini may already be out of stock, you can get the Nest Audio at a clearance price at Best Buy.
After several months of waiting, Google’s newest Home speaker is finally ready to hit the shelves. Google recently broke its silence and announced that the new $99.99 speaker, loaded with Gemini from the start, arrives on June 25. But the flip side of the positive news about the updated speaker lineup isn’t pretty, as Google is culling the older models.
We’ve recently learned that Google is discontinuing the previous Nest speakers, including the Nest Mini and the Nest Audio. The move was already anticipated when our sister site Android Authority noticed that these speakers were in short supply and listed as “out of stock” on the official Google Store.
However, Google has now laid the rumors to rest, confirming that it’s ceasing production of the older Nest models in favor of the newly launched Home speaker. A company spokesperson recently shared the following statement with Tech Advisor:
As we continue to build the future of the smart home, we are refining our portfolio of Google Home and Nest devices. As part of this evolution, we have ended production of the Google Nest Mini and Google Nest Audio.
While the unavailability has already substantiated the move, you could still find some of the pending stock. For instance, Best Buy has the Nest Audio on clearance for $75, which is worth considering if you’re primarily concerned with controlling music with your voice and just want to brush up on your communication skills with Gemini, which recently arrived on older speakers, without having to pay a monthly $10 subscription for the more advanced features, such as Gemini Live.
According to Google, the new Home speaker offers omnidirectional (360º) audio output through a 58mm driver, which is twice as large as the Nest Mini’s and is claimed to deliver 2.5x the bass. However, you would likely miss out on the added bass from the 75mm woofers that enriched the audio profile on the Nest Audio.
