THIEAUDIO has built a strong reputation around high-end, multi-driver in-ear monitors that combine careful engineering with premium materials. The THIEAUDIO Hype 4 MKII represents a full ground-up redesign of the original Hype 4, touching nearly every aspect of the product—from the internal driver array to the external shell construction and bundled accessories.

Rather than a minor refresh, the Hype 4 MKII positions itself as a refined mid-range luxury option for listeners interested in studio-oriented wired earbuds, offering a complex hybrid driver setup, a modular cable system, and a durable all-metal housing. Below, we’ll break down exactly what’s new, what’s included, and how THIEAUDIO has approached the engineering of the Hype 4 MKII.

What do you get with the THIEAUDIO Hype 4 MK II

The ThieAudio Hype 4 MKII have many accessories, and a configurable connector.

The box alone tells you that this is a luxury product. It transforms from a slip case into a clamshell, then opens like a book cover. It proudly showcases the IEMs with the unique shattered glass design. The pearlescent shards shimmer in all colors of the rainbow, depending on the angle of the light.

The earbuds are made of an aluminum alloy milled from solid blocks, giving them a solid feel. The aluminum housings are anodized to increase the durability of the earbuds, preventing corrosion over time. The metal housings have an eye-catching shattered glass design that doesn’t look too bulky or large in the ear. In terms of fit, a lot of the comfort is in the shape of the design, more than its weight or size.

The cable of the THIEAUDIO Hype 4 MKII is a thick twisted cable, with large industrial-looking casings for the connectors. It connects to the earbuds with a standard 2-pin. The other end used a 4-pin hotswap connector to easily swap between 3.5mm and 4.4mm penteconn. This allows for an easy swap when moving from a fully fledged desktop DAC to portable DACs. The cable is a deep navy blue PVC cover, which matches the blue sheen of the earbuds.

THIEAUDIO includes a zippered hard case made with soft-touch velvety material. This safely stores the IEMs away from dust and debris when you aren’t using them. To increase the lifespan of the earbuds, the hard case also stores extra nozzle filters in the event that they get damaged. Both the hard case and the extra filters ensure that the Hype 4 MK II will last a long time.

The THIEAUDIO Hype 4 MKII updates the Impact Drivers

The THIEAUDIO Hype 4 MK II has updated its in-house design Impact2 8mm dynamic drivers with a second iteration. There are a total of six drivers in the earbuds. Two Impact2 Low Frequency dynamic drivers for bass output, two Knowles RAB balanced armature drivers to cover the mids, with a Knowles ED-33465 balanced armature to drive the high frequency sounds, and another Knowles RAD-33518 to cover the ultra high frequency spectrum.

The crossover of the drivers ensures that each driver outputs the intended frequencies without bleeding over each other, to increase clarity and avoid distortion. The crossover is done through a 4-way crossover and 4-tube system featuring 7 separate passive components. The combination of the multiple drivers and crossover, the THIEAUDIO Hype reproduces bass frequencies as low as 5Hz and extends far into the treble up to 22KHz.

THIEAUDIO claims that the tuning of the Hype 4 MK II is tuned to have a warm presentation, while avoiding muddiness. They have even tuned the decay of the treble to include a delayed decay to increase detail retrieval and perceived spatial depth, without the pain of sibilance.

The company specifies an impedance of 18Ω (±1Ω) and a sensitivity of 101dB (±1dB) at 1kHz, making the earbuds suitable for use with a wide range of sources, including portable players and desktop systems.

Pricing and availability

THIEAUDIO Hype MKII is available on the Linsoul site priced at $399. This puts it in the mid-range lineup in the very competitive luxury IEM scene. Purchases include a one-year warranty on the earbuds and a three-month warranty on the cable.

With the metallic shell and multi-driver configuration, and luxury packaging, this makes it a rewarding experience for studio engineers who also want to enjoy their music.
