Shokz has officially announced the OpenFit Air 2, its lightest pair of open-ear true wireless earbuds to date, targeting fitness enthusiasts and daily commuters seeking comfort without ear canal fatigue. Launching alongside the bone-conduction OpenRun Air 2, the earbuds provide a lighter, more pocketable alternative for anyone weighing bone conduction vs. open earbuds, or looking for a budget-friendly step-down from the flagship OpenFit 2.
Announced via a press release, the OpenFit Air 2 slims down the earbud’s footprint considerably compared to its predecessor. Each earbud weighs just 7.2g, making them the lightest entry in the OpenFit lineup. The charging case is 10.5% smaller, and the entire set together is 17.6% lighter than the previous generation.
Shokz has also refined the ear-hook curvature using a 0.75mm nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) alloy frame to keep the fit secure during intense workouts while reducing pressure points and heat buildup during extended sessions.
On the audio front, the OpenFit Air 2 incorporates Shokz’s Bassphere dual-driver acoustic architecture, paired with the OpenBass 2.0 algorithm, promising to deliver a punchier bass response and greater dynamic range. To combat sound leakage typical of open designs, Shokz uses a 30° angled speaker housing alongside DirectPitch technology to deliver audio directly into the ear canal. Listeners can further tweak the sound through the Shokz companion app, which provides four EQ presets and two customizable user profiles.
Everyday usability also sees key improvements. Shokz has replaced standard touch controls with pressure-sensitive inputs to minimize phantom touches caused by sweat, moisture, or stray hair. The earbuds also feature Bluetooth 6.1 with Multipoint Pairing, Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair support. Call quality is handled by a dual-microphone system with AI-powered noise reduction.
Battery life is rated for up to eight hours on a single charge, stretching to 36 hours total with the charging case. A 10-minute quick charge yields up to three hours of listening time. The earbuds also carry an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance.
