Does Spotify Lossless work over Bluetooth?

A phone sits on a green background, plugged into a set of wired earbuds. On the screen is the Spotify logo.
You’ll want a good pair of wired cans or IEMs for the best possible listening experience.

Not really. Bluetooth doesn’t have the bandwidth for true lossless, so Spotify compresses the stream before sending it to your wireless earbuds or headphones, even with higher-quality codecs like LDAC or aptX.

For the best experience, Spotify recommends:

How much data does Spotify Lossless use?

Keep in mind, Lossless audio files are larger than Spotify’s “Very High” setting. That means:

  • Tracks may take a moment to start buffering
  • Downloads will take up more storage
  • Data use will spike on cellular connections

Spotify shows estimated data usage in the Media Quality menu so that you can balance quality with bandwidth.

Where is Spotify Lossless available?

Lossless is rolling out gradually through October 2025. Premium subscribers in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, and more already have access, with over 50 markets to follow soon.

The bottom line

Enabling lossless audio on Spotify only takes a few taps. Whether you notice the difference depends on your setup: wired headphones and Wi-Fi will reveal the most detail, while Bluetooth earbuds will still deliver a compressed stream.
