TL;DR
  • Harman (owned by Samsung) is buying Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, and Polk from Masimo
  • Masimo wants to focus on medical tech instead of consumer audio
  • The deal is worth $350 million in cash and is expected to close by the end of 2025

Harman, the company behind JBL, AKG, and Harman Kardon, is scooping up some of the most iconic names in home audio—Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, and Polk—for $350 million.

The brands are being sold off by Masimo, a medical tech company that only recently got into the consumer audio space by acquiring Sound United. Turns out, they’ve decided to stick to what they know—healthcare gear—and are handing off their audio brands to someone with deeper roots in the space.

Harman’s Dave Rogers says the deal is all about growth and bringing more variety to audio fans. “This gives us more reach in home audio, hi-fi, and car systems. These are some of the best-known brands out there, and they fit right in with our lineup,” he said in a statement.

Masimo’s leadership seems happy too, saying this move lets them refocus their efforts on medical tech—stuff like patient monitoring and diagnostics, where they’ve been more successful. CEO Katie Szyman added that the audio brands will have a stronger future under Harman’s wing.

The sale should wrap up by the end of 2025, assuming it gets the green light from regulators. Once finalized, Harman will become home to some of the most respected names in hi-fi, uniting them with its already heavyweight lineup, including JBL, Harman Kardon, AKG, Mark Levinson, Arcam, and Revel.
