Fluance adds AB40 Soundbase to their line-up

3D sound for your TV

Fluance has proven themselves time and time again when it comes to bang for your buck home audio gear. We’ve continually been impressed by their speakers both portable and for the home, and now they’ve announced the perfect companion for you TV: a soundbase. If you’re looking for a quick and inexpensive way to add some low end to your movies, the new AB40 SoundBase might be a good option.

Simply stand your TV (up to 150 pounds) on top, or mount it above the AB40 and you’re good to go. Fluance uses their award-winning sound processing in order to provide 3D sound without the use of multiple speakers. Dual 1” silk dome tweeter and four 3” woofers combine to help you hear everything from whispered voices to loud explosions. The AB40 is spec’d at being able to produce sounds as low as 30 Hz, which is a fairly impressive achievement considering there’s no subwoofer.

Along the back of the Soundbase you’ll find inputs for an optical cable, 3.5mm cable, and of course the power supply. You can also connect to it via Bluetooth if you choose to and it even supports aptX for higher quality streaming from mobile devices or computer. You’ll be able to adjust the volume, browse settings, and switch between inputs thanks to touch sensitive controls along the top of the speaker. If it’s anything like the controls on the Fi70 we were previously able to test, we’re sure these will work just fine. That said if you’re not a huge fan of getting up to change the volume every few minutes (guilty), the AB40 also comes with a handy remote. Along with adjusting volume, you’ll also be able to switch inputs, add a bass boost to whatever you’re listening to, mute the sound, switch to a Bluetooth device, and even turn on or off the 3D audio feature for simulated surround sound.

Initially, the AB40 Soundbase was set to cost $249, but for some reason Fluance has them priced $50 cheaper at only $199. It’s available now via their website so make sure to act quick if this checks all the boxes for a base that you’ve been looking for.
