Edifier’s CES 2026 lineup focuses on “cross-scenario” active speakers

At CES 2026, Edifier unveiled a new lineup designed to cater to a wide range of modern listening setups, from desks and living rooms to creative workspaces. The company describes this approach as “cross-scenario” audio, combining multimedia speakers designed for flexible everyday use with dedicated studio monitors built for accuracy and control. The announcement reflects Edifier’s continued push toward active speaker systems tailored to specific use cases rather than one-size-fits-all designs.

In practice, “cross-scenario” means Edifier is trying to address the reality that many people now use the same space for work, gaming, content creation, and movie nights. Instead of forcing listeners to compromise with a single-purpose setup, the company’s latest speakers are meant to move seamlessly between these roles. Someone might start their day editing audio or video at a desk, switch to gaming in the afternoon, and then wind down with a show on the couch, all while relying on the same core speaker hardware. Edifier’s new lineup is built to handle that kind of fluid, mixed-use environment.

The centerpiece of the launch is the new Edifier M90 compact multimedia speaker, which builds on the desktop-focused M60 by adding features aimed at TVs and consoles. Most notably, the M90 includes HDMI eARC support alongside optical, USB-C, AUX, and Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC—still an uncommon feature set for standalone active speakers. Edifier positions the M90 as a single system that can handle everything from near-field listening to TV audio without requiring a separate receiver or soundbar.

Edifier M90 key specs and features

Instead of a traditional passive speaker pair, the M90 is a fully active, bi-amped 2.0 system rated for 100W RMS total output. Each channel gets 35W dedicated to the mid-low drivers and 15W dedicated to the tweeters, giving the speakers enough headroom for both near-field listening at a desk and louder playback in a small living room. This bi-amped approach lets Edifier fine-tune how power is distributed across the frequency range and helps maintain clarity when the volume is pushed.

The driver configuration combines 4-inch long-throw aluminum mid-low drivers with 1-inch silk-dome tweeters. The aluminum cones are designed to be lightweight yet rigid, which can help improve transient response and keep bass tighter and more controlled. The long-throw design allows the drivers to move more air than a typical compact woofer, which is useful when the M90 is filling a room rather than just sitting beside a monitor. Up top, the silk-dome tweeters aim to deliver detailed treble.

Internally, the M90 uses end-to-end 24-bit/96kHz DSP with an active crossover and dynamic range control. This means all of the signal management—from crossover points to frequency shaping and level protection—is handled in the digital domain before it reaches the amplifiers. The active crossover allows Edifier to precisely split the signal between the mid-low drivers and tweeters, while dynamic range control works in the background to prevent sudden peaks from overdriving the system. Together, these technologies are geared toward delivering consistent performance across a wide variety of content, whether that’s a quiet dialogue scene or an explosive game soundtrack.

The speakers carry both Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certifications, indicating support for higher-than-CD-quality playback over wired and compatible wireless connections. For connectivity, Edifier includes HDMI eARC, optical, USB-C, and AUX inputs, alongside Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC and multipoint pairing. HDMI eARC lets the M90 act like a soundbar replacement, passing uncompressed audio from compatible TVs with volume control handled by the TV remote. Optical and USB-C inputs cater to desktop and laptop users, while AUX keeps legacy analog sources in play. LDAC support raises the ceiling for wireless audio quality, and multipoint pairing lets listeners quickly switch between devices like a phone and a laptop without repeatedly reconnecting. A dedicated subwoofer output opens the door to expanding the system into a 2.1 setup if deeper bass is needed.

On the control side, the M90 offers a rear control knob for quick adjustments at the speaker, a 2.4GHz omnidirectional remote for couch-friendly operation, and support for the Edifier ConneX mobile app. The app provides access to three preset sound modes—geared toward music, movies, and gaming—as well as a 9-band EQ for more detailed customization. This allows users to lightly tweak the sound to suit their taste or their room without diving into complicated external gear.

Physically, each M90 speaker measures 133 x 212 x 225mm, making the pair compact enough to fit on most desks and TV stands while still leaving room for a proper stereo image. The footprint is small enough for tight apartment setups or shared workspaces, but the output specs suggest the system should still be capable of filling a modest living room. Edifier is clearly aiming for a balance between size, power, and usability, so the M90 can function as the main speaker system in a mixed-use space instead of being limited to secondary or desktop duty.

Beyond the M90, Edifier also expanded its monitor lineup for creators and home studios. The MR Series includes the compact MR3 and the three-way MR5, which adds a built-in woofer and side-mounted acoustic lens for stronger bass in smaller spaces. Both models feature DSP-based tuning, room and placement compensation, and wide off-axis response, and they’ve already earned Japan’s VGP 2025 Design Award. Edifier also introduced the XR6 near-middle field monitor, which includes automatic in-box room calibration designed to optimize performance based on room acoustics.

Rounding out the announcement is the QR Series, including the QR65 and QR30, which takes a more understated approach to RGB lighting. Instead of flashy LEDs, Edifier uses an Infinity Mirror design to create subtle ambient lighting meant to complement cleaner desk setups. The QR65 pairs that look with hi-fi-focused hardware, including a two-way design, 70W RMS bi-amped DSP, a maze-style bass-reflex port, and a built-in GaN fast charger for cleaner cable management.

Pricing and availability

The M60, MR5, MR3, QR65, and QR30 are available now, while the Edifier M90 is scheduled to be available in early March. We’ll be keeping an eye on the rollout and look forward to putting the M90 through SoundGuys’ testing lab once it becomes available.

Taken together, Edifier’s CES 2026 lineup suggests the company is leaning into the idea that one brand can cover everything from casual desk listening to more demanding studio work and living room setups. The M90 targets users who want a small-footprint system that can handle TV, console, and computer audio, while the MR and XR series are focused on accuracy and control for creators. The QR series then rounds things out with lifestyle-oriented speakers that still pack thoughtful hardware under a more design-forward exterior. As these products hit the market, it will be interesting to see how they stack up against established competitors in each category—and how well Edifier’s “cross-scenario” strategy resonates with listeners whose audio needs are more varied than ever.
