DJI squeezes its best audio tricks into the Mic Mini 2S, but there's still a catch

Not too long ago, DJI released the Mic Mini 2, the successor to its budget-friendly, lightweight wireless Mic Mini launched in 2024. Just months later, the company is now revealing a newer iteration, the Mic Mini 2S, with better recording capabilities, improved battery life, and a design upgrade.

The biggest selling point of the new Mic Mini 2S, DJI claims, is the improved audio with 32-bit floating-point recording, ensuring your voice remains intact in busy or noisy environments. The feature has so far been limited to the more expensive DJI Mic 2 and Mic 3 models. Compared to the 24-bit fixed-point recording on the Mic Mini 2, the Mini 2S’s improved recording abilities offer more headroom for editing in post, especially with a lot of variation in loudness. The addition may sound frivolous to some, but it might be useful for scenarios such as street interviews or field recording.

The new mic also gets Clipping Control from previous generations, and the feature automatically cuts off sudden spikes in loudness in busier environments, while Loudness Balance adjusts the dynamic range, increasing or reducing gain to stabilize when the signal’s volume is too high or too low.

Another benefit the Mic Mini 2S offers is support for four transmitters per receiver, overcoming the previous limitation of recording with just two. The Mini 2S still offers similar two-level noise recording as the Mini 2.

The battery life, too, appears to have doubled, with DJI now claiming 28 hours of recording (in 24-bit) per transmitter, up from 11.5 hours claimed for the previous model. It still comes in all eight jazzy colors that DJI introduced with the Mini 2. And to add more flair, DJI has adopted the top cover with a 3D pattern designed by artist Victo Ngai.

As with other Mic series devices, the Mini 2S also works seamlessly with other DJI products, including action and 360º cameras.

The wait is longer than you thought

All these features essentially make the Mic Mini 2 far less attractive, obsolete even. The only caveat holding that from truly happening, however, is the limited availability. DJI says the Mic Mini 2S will not be immediately available for sale in the US, although the company has already applied for authorization. This likely has nothing to do with the US government’s restriction on sales of DJI drones.

Therefore, we’re not getting US prices just yet. Instead, DJI has revealed Canadian prices for the Mic Mini 2S, which are as follows:

• 1 transmitter + 1 receiver: 149 CAD (~$106)
• 1 transmitter + 1 mobile receiver + Charging Case: 149 CAD (~$106)
