The JBL Xtreme 5 isn’t just another yearly refresh. JBL made some meaningful upgrades this time around, including a redesigned driver layout, more power, stronger bass, and integrated lighting. It feels like the most substantial Xtreme update in years and a genuine step up from the Xtreme 4.

For me, the Xtreme 5 is the sweet spot in JBL’s portable party speaker lineup. It’s large enough to fill a backyard barbecue or campsite with music, yet easy enough to carry over your shoulder with the included strap. JBL also kept one of my favorite features from the previous generation: the swappable battery. That’s still a rarity in portable speakers, and it’s one of those features that adds real long-term value.
