New York-based audio company Status Audio has released a special edition of its Pro X earbuds today. The company partnered with audio reviewer and engineer Cameron Oatley, colloquially known as GoldenSound, to create the Status Pro X GoldenSound Edition earbuds.
The earbuds’ underlying hardware remains the same as the one we’ve lauded as the best value-for-money audiophile earbuds. They feature the same “Hybrid Triple Driver Acoustic System,” which includes a 12mm dynamic driver alongside dual Knowles balanced-armature drivers.
Audio tuning for the earbuds is where GoldenSound comes into the picture. He has applied a bespoke tuning profile to the earbuds, matching his acoustic styling while keeping the soundstage accurate and maintaining tonal balance.
The earbuds still support the LDAC and LC3 codecs for high-res audio and are certified by the Japan Audio Society. They also use a three-mic array, along with Status Audio’s “Voiceloom AI Speech Enhancement” for clear audio on calls. Plus, there’s Bluetooth 5.3 and support for Auracast, LE Audio, and multipoint connectivity.
The Status Pro X GoldenSound Edition earbuds also keep the same touch and button control system, in-ear detection for automatic music playback and pause, and are IP55-rated for dust and water resistance. The earbuds last eight hours on a charge, and the included charging case extends that by another 24 hours for a claimed total of 32 hours of battery life.
The Status Pro X GoldenSound Edition earbuds come in a new black and gold color, are priced at $279 — a $30 jump over the regular Pro X earbuds — and can be preordered now on the Status Audio website. The earbuds are expected to start shipping to customers in mid-August.
