  • Sonos CEO Tom Conrad revealed that there will be a product launch in September.
  • The executive did not say what the product would be, but teased that it would be centered around AI.

Since the notorious Sonos app revamp that not only introduced bugs, but also removed existing features, Sonos has been working hard to win back its customers. The company recently announced a major update to its mobile app, introducing several quality-of-life improvements users have been requesting. It appears that Sonos hopes to keep up that momentum with the launch of a new product.

Spotted by What Hi-Fi?, Sonos CEO Tom Conrad confirmed in a third-quarter earnings call that a new product is on the way. During that call, Conrad announced that the company has a launch event planned for September. While the executive stops just short of revealing what the product is, he does hint at some details.

“I’ll save the news for the event but let me say this today: conversational computing and predictive intelligence are moving into the home,” said Conrad. “Sonos brings to this moment twenty years of solving the hard problems the home uniquely creates: sound, form, systemness, and intelligence. That combination, of where we already excel and where computing is going next, meaningfully expands the opportunity in front of us.”

In short, the device the company is launching will be centered around AI. Conrad goes on to discuss his vision for how Sonos fits into the topic of AI for the home:

The lasting value is going to be in what surrounds the [AI] model in a real home: the hardware that can converse with quality across every room, the system that already knows the shape of a home and the way a family lives in it, the connectivity to reach the speakers, services, and devices that turn a request into coordinated action. That’s the operating environment for AI in the home, and Sonos has spent twenty years building it.

Embracing AI is an unsurprising move considering the current direction of the tech industry. However, it remains to be seen if adopting AI will play in Sonos’ favor in the eyes of its customers.
