JBL has launched a new pair of true wireless earbuds at IFA 2023. The Soundgear Sense come with a detachable neckband and feature what the company calls its “OpenSound Technology.” Essentially, the earbuds allow wearers to hear their surroundings and the world around them while listening to their favorite tracks. At the same time, the design and shape of the earbuds is meant to reduce sound leakage.

The hybrid nature of the Soungear Sense will allow users to string the earbuds around their neck if they’re worried about them falling off or go completely wireless if that’s what they prefer.

The earbuds feature 16.2mm drivers and a bass-enhancing algorithm. They also get Bluetooth 5.3 support with LE audio. Controlling audio on the Soundgear Sense is easy thanks to touch control. Users can also personalize their listening experience through the accompanying JBL Headphones App, which provides EQ adjustments.

Four microphones are expected to provide a crisp and clear calling experience on the Soungear Sense. The buds also feature a decent battery life on paper, with six hours of playback on a single charge. The battery life is extendable further to 18 hours with the charging case. Moreover, the company claims a quick 15-minute charge can give the Soungear Sense four additional hours of music.

The Soundgear Sense are IP54-rated for durability, which means they can withstand sweating and splashes. They are also decently protected against dust ingress.

The earbuds will be available in Black and White from August 31 on JBL’s website in Europe and the UK. They are priced at €149.99/£129.99 (~$162) in the two regions and will come to the US only next year.
