The OneOdio Focus A6 headphones bring a robust package of features to the budget ANC market, which is especially impressive considering the headphones’ affordable price. It’s rare to find wireless headphones with active noise canceling (ANC) at this price, yet the Focus A6 are rated to provide up to 48dB of noise reduction. If you plan to spend some time outdoors this summer, you also won’t need to worry about wind noise, thanks to the dedicated wind noise reduction mode.

If you are looking for the latest and greatest wireless headphone technology, the Focus A6 delivers an impressive list of specs. These are the only headphones you’ll find on this list with the all-new Bluetooth 6.0. If you want to stream high-res music files, you’ll enjoy the support for the LDAC Bluetooth codec. On the other hand, if you are looking for low-latency performance, the Focus A6 feature a game mode with only 0.065s of delay. No more blaming your headphones for failing to get to the next level. To top off the list of Bluetooth features, the Focus A6 support Bluetooth Multipoint, so you can connect the headphones to both your phone and laptop at the same time.

The OneOdio Focus A6 come in either a Midnight Black or Ivory Blush color option.

The Focus A6 have 40mm dynamic drivers. Since everyone has different music listening preferences, OneOdio provides a custom equalizer to tweak the sound of the headphones to your liking. You’ll find that feature in the OneOdio app, along with a 360 spatial audio Cinema Mode. If you have a certain sound in mind, you can select from one of the EQ presets, such as the Super Bass mode (ideal for those who really like bass).

Battery life is also impressive: you get up to 75 hours of playback, and a solid 10 hours from just a 10-minute charge. That kind of longevity is especially useful if you travel often or hate remembering to charge your gear. Comfort also doesn’t take a backseat—the Focus A6 uses lightweight aluminum alloy construction and soft leather ear pads that promise breathability and all-day wearability. At 240g, they stay comfy on the head without feeling bulky. If you’re shopping Prime Day deals and want maximum value under $100, this is one to keep your eye on.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 are still a good option in 2025

The king of the ANC pack extends its reign

Even though the new Sony WH-1000XM6 are out now, the older Sony WH-1000XM5 are still worth considering, especially if you can find them on sale during Prime Day. For many years, we considered the Sony WH-1000XM5 one of the best overall headphones on the market. While they have some flaws (notably in the hinge design), the Sony WH-1000XM5 still deliver a well-rounded experience.

According to our testing, the Sony WH-1000XM5 reduce the loudness of external noise by an average of 84%. That impressive ANC makes the Sony WH-1000XM5 a great option for travelling or commuting. Moreover, in our battery tests, the Sony WH-1000XM5 lasted 31 hours, 53 minutes with ANC on, so you can trust these headphones to last any long-haul flight. While the default sound emphasizes bass and treble more than our preference here at SoundGuys, most people will enjoy the sound quality, especially after a bit of tweaking in the companion app.

The Beats Studio Pro are a decent value when on sale

Beats Studio Pro
Beats Studio Pro
Beats Studio Pro
Enhanced smartphone integration • Lossless and Spatial Audio • Big battery life
MSRP: $349.00
Spatial audio, lossless playback, and big battery life
The Beats Studio Pro are a relatively light-weight set of Bluetooth headphones. With up to 40 hours of battery life, USB Type-C charging and wired playback, as well as a 3.5mm port, ANC, and Spatial Audio, these are contenders for the hottest headphones of 2023.

At their starting price of $349, we don’t typically recommend the Beats Studio Pro. But when Prime Day rolls around, it’s time to give the Beats Studio Pro some serious consideration. Often, you can find these headphones for as much as 50% off during major promotions. If you can find the Beats Studio Pro for less than $200, they become a great mid-range choice.

The Beats Studio Pro offer a compelling mix of features—solid active noise canceling, USB-C DAC support, and excellent battery life. Audio quality is where the Studio Pro manages to shine, thanks in part to updated tuning that distances itself from Beats’ traditionally bass-heavy profile. Listeners can toggle through EQ presets when using USB-C, though there is no EQ support while wireless.

If you own an iPhone or other Apple device, you’ll find the Beats Studio Pro integrates natively into your operating system. This unlocks access to a variety of features such as spatial audio with head-tracking, Find My, and fast-pairing. On the other hand, Android users can download the Beats app to stay on top of the latest firmware updates and customize the controls.

The JLab JBuds Lux offer a lot of bang for your buck

JLab JBuds Lux ANC
USB-C audio • Sound quality • Comfort
MSRP: $79.99
For under $100, these are crazy good value.
As far as inexpensive ANC headphones go, the JLab JBuds Lux ANC are one of the best of 2024. They focus on the fundamentals, and not fighting the spec wars.

The JLab JBuds Lux ANC headphones offer a solid feature set for just $79.99, positioning themselves as one of the best value ANC headphones. While they don’t chase high-end specs, they nail the essentials—offering comfortable over-ear padding, USB-C audio, a folding design for portability, and a companion app with a 10-band EQ and adjustable ANC. In testing, they delivered a strong 44-hour battery life and passable ANC that blocks out a good chunk of low and high frequency noise, making them ideal for commuting. The sound leans bass-heavy with a noticeable treble spike, which may tire sensitive ears over long sessions, but the EQ can correct this easily.

What makes the JBuds Lux ANC stand out in the sub-$100 segment is how few trade-offs you have to make. You won’t get LDAC or aptX, but Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC is more than capable for casual use. The build, while largely plastic, is sturdy enough and the mic performance is respectable for calls in most environments. These headphones don’t aim to wow with cutting-edge features, but they absolutely deliver where it counts. If you’re on a budget this Prime Day and want headphones that punch way above their weight, this is an easy recommendation.

The Apple AirPods Max are the best for iPhone users

Apple AirPods Max
One of the best ANC • 20-hour battery life • Well-built pads
MSRP: $424.99
A spectacular pair of headphones with best-in-class ANC
The AirPods Max wireless headphones offer best-in-class noise canceling with twenty hours of battery life. They provide excellent frequency response and great audio features.

If you own an iPhone, the AirPods Max remain a great option in 2025. That said, the starting price of $549 USD is a tough pill to swallow. However, on Prime Day, and during other major sales throughout the year, we typically see the AirPods Max go on sale by at least $100. If you can get a good discount on them, the AirPods Max are a good choice for those in the Apple ecosystem.

To date, the AirPods Max have the best active noise canceling of any headphones we’ve tested, with an average reduction in loudness of external noise of 88%. If you frequently travel or commute in noisy environments, the AirPods Max are up for the job. They are no slouch when it comes to sound quality either, as they received a score of 4.6 on a scale from 1-5 in MDAQS sound quality testing. Where these headphones really shine is in their set of features, as the AirPods Max have a ton to offer those with an Apple device.

What you should know about buying ANC headphones

When shopping for active noise cancelling (ANC) headphones, the first thing to understand is that not all ANC systems are created equal. In our testing, premium models like the Sony WH-1000XM6 or AirPods Max consistently deliver excellent low-frequency noise reduction—think plane engines and traffic rumble. Midrange and high-frequency noise, like voices or clinking dishes, are harder to cancel and reveals the quality of the headphone’s algorithm and fit. It’s crucial to consider passive isolation too: the better the physical seal, the less the ANC has to work, and the more consistent the result will be across environments.

Battery life and comfort also matter more than you might think. Because ANC processing draws extra power, you should look for headphones that still last at least 20 hours with ANC turned on. Over-ears typically fare better here than wireless earbuds, but some high-end buds manage it too. Also, ANC headphones tend to weigh more and generate heat—so we recommend trying them on if you can, or checking whether the earpads are replaceable for long-term comfort. Ultimately, prioritize ANC performance if you travel often, but balance it with sound quality, comfort, and battery to get the best experience.

How we test the best ANC headphones

alienware pro on the B&K head
We test headphones using the Bruel & Kjaer 5128 head.

We test ANC headphones using a combination of controlled lab measurements and real-world scenarios to get a full picture of their performance. On the bench, we use an industry-standard artificial Bruel & Kjaer 5128 head and torso simulator (HATS) equipped with microphones that replicate the human ear. This setup lets us capture how effectively each pair of headphones cancels sound across a range of frequencies. We play calibrated pink noise through speakers in our testing room and measure how much of that sound is reduced when the ANC is active. We also track isolation curves with ANC off, so we can separate the electronic performance from the passive fit.

But numbers alone don’t tell the full story. We always spend time using each set of headphones in noisy environments—subways, cafes, airplanes—to hear how they perform in the wild. For example, some models may test well in the lab but struggle with wind noise or produce subtle pressure artifacts that aren’t visible in a frequency graph. That’s why subjective impressions remain a key part of our process. We log any quirks like ANC hiss, sudden shifts, or odd transparency behaviors, and consider how they might impact your day-to-day experience. Ultimately, our goal is to identify which ANC headphones don’t just measure well—but feel great to use.
