xMEMS unveils Sycamore-W: The world’s thinnest speaker for smart watches and fitness bands
May 13, 2025

- xMEMS has introduced Sycamore-W, the world’s thinnest speaker designed specifically for smartwatches and fitness bands.
- It offers significantly smaller, lighter, and more durable audio solutions compared to traditional coil speakers, with the potential to free up valuable space in wearables.
- Production is expected to begin in Q2 2026.
xMEMS Labs has introduced Sycamore-W, the world’s thinnest MEMS speaker designed specifically for smartwatches and fitness bands. Measuring just 1mm thin and weighing only 150 milligrams, Sycamore-W significantly reduces the size and weight of speaker components, enabling sleeker and more comfortable wearable designs without compromising audio quality.

Sycamore-W, part of the Sycamore near-field MEMS speaker family, boasts a slim 20mm x 4mm form factor, cutting down on speaker volume by an impressive 70% compared to traditional coil-based speakers. Optimized specifically for wrist-worn wearables, Sycamore-W’s compact design frees up valuable space inside devices, allowing manufacturers to incorporate larger batteries and additional biometric sensors. Additionally, its silicon-based construction offers great durability with IP58-rated protection and shock resistance up to 10,000g, which is ideal for active and outdoor-focused wearables.
Samples of Sycamore-W are available now for select customers, with mass production set to begin in Q2 2026. For broader applications such as smart glasses and laptops, the original Sycamore µSpeaker continues to be available, with additional variants coming later this year.
