TL;DR
  • A report claims that Sonos could release its anticipated headphones in June 2024.
  • The headphones are expected to be priced at $449.
  • Sonos plans to produce 650,000 to 1 million units over the next year.

Sonos is expected to add headphones to its portfolio of smart speakers, soundbars, other products this year. A new rumor claims the company will release its highly anticipated product in the middle of the 2024.

According to Bloomberg, Sonos is planning to launch its wireless headphones this June. Sonos’s first cans will be interoperable with the company’s ecosystem of speakers and home theater soundbars. It’s also said that these headphones will be sold for $449, putting them over Sony’s WH-1000XM5 ($400) but under Apple’s AirPods Max ($549).

Earlier reports claimed that Sonos would roll out its over-the-ear headphones as early as April. However, the Bloomberg report says Sonos was targeting a May release, but ran into some late-stage software setbacks that led to a delay.

Sonos has reportedly been working on these headphones since 2019. But the project was temporarily halted in 2020. In the process, the company ended up scraping earlier iterations of the concept.

It appears Sonos believes it will have success in this market it has yet to tap into. The audio product maker expects to “produce between 650,000 and 1 million units over the next year to fulfill demand.” In addition to the number of units it is targeting, Sonos is reportedly already considering a follow-up, as well as wireless earbuds.
