Nothing Ear (3) launches with a special Super Mic up it's sleeve
3 hours ago

- Features a dual-microphone system built into the charging case for clearer calls in noisy environments
- Houses larger 12mm drivers, claiming reduced distortion and improved bass response
- Adaptive ANC has also been improved
Nothing has revealed all the details on their fourth flagship wireless earbuds, aptly named the (checks notes) Nothing Ear (3). Aside from returning to the numbered naming after dropping it for the previous “Nothing Ear” model, the new earbuds pack plenty of refinements and a few neat tricks up their sleeve.
The standout feature is a unique “Super Mic” system that embeds dual microphones directly into the charging case. When activated via the Talk button, the case uses beamforming technology to isolate your voice from background noise up to 95 dB, which is potentially useful for capturing quick voice notes and taking calls in noisy environments. The feature works with native voice memo apps and some third-party video apps, though not with in-app messaging platforms like WhatsApp.
The earbuds feature upgraded 12mm dynamic drivers, increasing from the 11mm units in the Nothing Ear. According to Nothing, the larger PMI dome diaphragm with TPU surround reduces total harmonic distortion from 0.6% to 0.2% while delivering 4-6 dB more bass and up to 4 dB more treble. Each earbud also packs three directional microphones plus a bone-conduction voice pickup unit that detects jaw vibrations to further enhance call clarity.
Nothing has also improved the active noise cancelation, which now adjusts in real-time every 600 milliseconds to your surroundings and constantly checks for fit-related leakage. The company claims up to 45 dB of noise reduction effective to 5 kHz, though we’ll need to test these claims ourselves to verify performance improvements over the previous generation.
Design-wise, the Ear (3) adds metal accents to Nothing’s transparent aesthetic, similar to the design philosophy we saw with the Nothing Headphone (1), with similar metal and recycled aluminum materials wrapped around the charging case. The earbuds maintain IP54 water resistance and offer similar battery performance to their predecessor—around 5.5 hours with ANC on, extending to 22 hours with the case. Connectivity upgrades include Bluetooth 5.4 with the return of LDAC support.
The Nothing Ear (3) will work with the existing Nothing X app for EQ customization, gesture controls, and firmware updates. Nothing OS users get an exclusive Essential Space feature that automatically syncs and transcribes voice recordings from the Super Mic. Ear (3) will be available in black and white for $179 USD. Global pre-orders begin 18 September 2025, with open Sales in select regions starting 25 September 2025.
