JBL Grip debuts as a new portable speaker between the Clip and Flip models

JBL has introduced the Grip, a new portable speaker that bridges the gap between the ultra-compact Clip and slightly larger Flip series. Priced at $99, the Grip is designed for listeners who want to balance portability and performance. It’s small enough to hold in one hand and boasts a rugged IP68 build, making it waterproof, dustproof, and drop-resistant.

The design blends outdoor readiness with indoor appeal. A built-in rope hook and oversized buttons suit on-the-go use, while the curved housing and customizable ambient lighting make it equally at home on a nightstand. Notably, the Grip is JBL’s first portable speaker designed to stand upright by default, giving it a smaller footprint and easier access to controls.

A 43 x 80mm full-range transducer delivers 16W of JBL Pro Sound, and the speaker supports Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast for multi-speaker playback using compatible devices.

JBL claims up to 14 hours of playback on a single charge with “PlaytimeBoost” enabled. Charging takes around three hours via USB-C, and you can personalize the sound of the Grip through the JBL Portable app.

It’s available to preorder now from JBL, with shipping expected to begin September 28. We’ll have a full review soon, so stay tuned for lab-tested results.
