  • An unannounced Google speaker appeared in a Made by Google video segment.
  • Disclaimer text referenced a “Google Home Speaker w/ Gemini.”
  • The device doesn’t match any known Nest model and wasn’t officially introduced.

Google may have quietly teased a brand-new Nest smart speaker during its Made by Google 2025 event. Despite no official announcement, an unfamiliar device appeared in a segment featuring Formula 1 driver Lando Norris.

The moment occurred during a video skit where Norris and NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo swapped routines, using Google’s Gemini AI for guidance. While much of the interaction occurred on a Pixel 10 phone, Norris also used what appeared to be an unannounced Google smart speaker.

Further evidence surfaced in the event’s disclaimer text, which references a “Google Home Speaker w/ Gemini,” noting it “requires Google Home app, Wi-Fi, [and an] internet connection,” and adding that the Gemini voice assistant operates independently of Gemini apps, hinting at dedicated hardware functionality.

The speaker doesn’t match any existing Nest hardware. It has a compact design, resembling a shorter Nest Wi-Fi point. It features an illuminated ring at its base that changes colors when Gemini responds, a visual cue more reminiscent of Amazon’s Echo line. Google did not officially acknowledge the device during the presentation, suggesting it may have been intended for release but delayed.

This sighting aligns with Google’s plans to bring Gemini to Home devices later this fall, a likely window for accompanying hardware launches. Google’s Nest smart speaker lineup hasn’t seen a major refresh since the launch of the Nest Audio in 2020. Meanwhile, Amazon and Apple have steadily advanced their smart home ecosystems. As Gemini becomes more central to Google’s strategy, a refreshed smart speaker could signal a broader effort to unify AI across home and mobile.
