These battery-free sleep earbuds use magnetic power to stream audio all night
5 hours ago

- SomniBuds are 3mm-thin sleep earbuds that work without batteries or recharging.
- They use a magnetically powered analog audio system via the SomniMat, placed under your pillow.
- Stream audio from any Bluetooth device all night—no apps, subscriptions, or charging case required.
A new product called SomniBuds is reimagining sleep audio with what may be the world’s first battery-free Bluetooth earbuds designed to stream audio indefinitely without ever needing a recharge.
Launched recently on Kickstarter, SomniBuds are ultra-slim earbuds measuring just 3mm thick, a quarter the size of competing sleepbuds like the Sleep A30 from Soundcore or the Ozlo Sleepbuds. Instead of housing traditional electronics or a battery, the earbuds are powered magnetically by a separate base unit called the SomniMat, which slides under your pillow or mattress. This setup apparently allows for continuous audio playback throughout the night without charging, blinking lights, or discomfort from bulky components.

Unlike typical wireless earbuds that rely on digital connections, SomniBuds use an analog audio signal, which the company says avoids abrupt disconnections. As users shift positions during sleep, the volume adjusts gradually depending on their proximity to the SomniMat — a design meant to deliver a more seamless sleep experience.
The SomniMat connects to any Bluetooth source, such as a smartphone, TV, or tablet, and transmits audio magnetically to the earbuds. With no built-in battery or software in the earbuds themselves, the SomniBuds remain light and flexible, features the company says are essential for comfort during sleep. An articulated stem helps conform to different sleep positions, and there’s no companion app or subscription required.
The Kickstarter campaign launched in September 2025 and has already blown past its funding goal. While delivery timelines and real-world performance remain to be seen, the concept represents a notable shift in how personal audio could evolve for niche uses like sleep.
