How much data does streaming music use? Is there a way to avoid that?

While streaming audio doesn’t use a lot of data at once, the longer you use it, the more it chews up. Additionally, you could burn through your data plan if you set your services to stream at high quality (making the file sizes larger) or by downloading songs to your phone.

While songs are unlikely to exceed 10MB per 4-minute song, it adds up fast, especially if your service provider doesn’t grant you free data streaming for music services like T-Mobile does.
