A new Kickstarter campaign hopes to marry light and sound together in a handy little package that screws directly into a light socket. The name? AirBulb – “a LED Bulb with Enjoyment.”

“When there is Light, there is Music.” Not a bad slogan, if you ask us, and if you’re reading this, you probably agree. A lightbulb with a built-in speaker isn’t exactly a technological revolution, but it’s a cool concept, and the simplicity can’t be beat. A few points that Avantconcept, the company behind the AirBulb, makes on the Kickstarter page:

  • One single unit.
  • No extra wires.
  • No extra plugs.
  • No AC adapters required.
  • No remotes to lose.

The AirBulb will have an app, available for both iOS and Android, that will make streaming music to the AirBulb a cinch. That isn’t the only function, however. The app will also be able to control the light’s color temperature and turn the light on and off. Avantconcept claims that the AirBulb will have a range of 10 meters, so as long as you’re at least somewhat close to the light, controlling it should be easy.

Assuming that the Kickstarter campaign is successful, the Airbulb will sell for $59 and will begin shipping sometime in May of this year. The campaign seems to be off to a fairly slow start, with only $4,337 of it’s $100,000 goal pledged at the time of this writing, but it has 44 days left to go. If the AirBulb succeeds and makes it out of the world of dreams and into the real world, we’ll be sure to let you know.
